Iowa Public Television
JFor the last 50 years, Iowa Public Television has been at the forefront of lifelong learning in Iowa—years before the true value and benefits of lifelong learning became well known. Over the years, its programming has virtually defined lifelong learning, both formally and informally. That far-reaching programming has included televised GED courses, state and national news programs, and documentaries covering an amazing range of subjects that stretch from local, national, and world history to arts and sciences across the centuries. Also included in the lineup have been how-to programs, teaching such fundamental subjects as painting, quilting, and cooking. Truly, it is instructional and informative programming that appeals to Iowans of all ages.

Since 2011, IPTV has provided access to standards-aligned learning media—thousands of videos, interactives, lesson plans, and other resources for the classroom, covering such subjects as social studies, arts, math, science, and languages, and extending across all school ages and needs. IPTV has added to their already extensive resources a number of educator professional development opportunities, both online and in person. The Iowa Science Phenomena program, for example, will have teachers from across the state collaborating on exploring Iowa earth and environmental science phenomena. Another recent example is the IPTV STEAM trailer, which travels to communities across Iowa to provide science, technology, engineering, arts and math enrichment activities to young learners.
IPTV outreach is phenomenal and far-reaching, as is their positive impact on Iowans. More than 86,000 lifelong learners attended IPTV events and another 11,000 Iowans received training through its education services in the past year alone. More than 18,000 Iowa teachers have registered to take advantage of the online learning media described earlier. IPTV has contributed more than 360 individual resources to that service.
