Mary Kramer

For more than four decades, Martha Quint has dedicated her life to helping others so they can lead safer, more satisfying, or richer lives. Much of Martha’s service as a lawyer has been to improve the lives of Iowa seniors. Over the years, since she began practicing law in 1976, she has advocated tirelessly for changes in laws that would help seniors get better information about Medicare Supplemental Insurance, provide protection for seniors against adult abuse, and assist seniors whose spouses need Medicaid assistance.

She was one of the founders of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Eastern Iowa Chapter and has served on the Regional Advisory Committee of Medicare Operation Restore Trust of Iowa, the Linn County Board of Health, the Linn County Adult Abuse Multidisciplinary Team, and the Iowa Department on Aging Task Force for Delivery of Legal Services.

Martha taught for more than 33 years and educated thousands of students at Kirkwood Community College in Business Law. She taught courses that address business and legal issues to better our communities and state and prevent fraud and abuse.

Martha was appointed by Governor Ray to serve on the Iowa Council for Vocational/Technical Education, and she was appointed to the National Association for State Councils on Vocational Education. In the years she served on these boards, Martha advocated for strengthening vocational/technical education in Iowa’s secondary and postsecondary schools. She helped convince others that vocational education was not subordinate to college-directed education, and therefore the public and the educational community recognized the strength and importance of vocational education.

Among the many honors Martha has received for her contributions to Iowa and Iowans are the Citation Award from the Iowa Vocational Association, as well as recognition for serving as National President for the national Association of State Councils on Vocational Education. She has received the Past President Award from the Alzheimer’s Association and has been recognized for serving the Regional Advisory Council of Operation Restore Trust of Iowa.

Martha will tell you she has been learning and continues to learn from people she works with, the clients she works for and the communities she serves.
