Tama/Toledo

The McLaurys’ oldest sister Margaret married a prominent Tama attorney, David Applegate, and raised her family in the area. She resided in Tama at the time of the shootout, and from that location supported her brother Will, a Texas attorney who helped finance the prosecution against the Earps.

During the trial, Margaret sent her oldest son, also an attorney, to Arizona to help her brother and to convince him he should return to Texas to care for his motherless children, while others oversaw seeking justice against the Earps.

Before her marriage, Margaret lived on the McLaury on the family farm outside Belle Plaine. Despite the farm's closeness to the city of Belle Plaine, the property lies in Tama County.
